This document exists to lay out some general principles of running a small social network site that have worked for me. These principles are related to community building more than they are related to specific technologies. This is because the big problems with social network sites are not technical: the problems are social problems related to things like policy, values, and power.

9. Learn to apply, not to procrastinate “the work”

Learning is best done while you’re doing the activity. Public education has taught people they must first master theory, then attempt to transfer that theory into the real world. In a similar way, people’s love for information via the internet has led them to use “learning” as a form of procrastination.

10. Focus on quantity in the beginning

Quantity is the most likely path to quality. The more you produce, the more ideas you will have — some of which will be innovative and original. And you never know which ones will click. You just keep creating.

Buttons normally have those traits in common: font style, font size, font color, button color, button size, borders, rounded corners, drop shadow or glow effects, hover state and animations.

If we try to change too many of these traits, the buttons might feel too foreign to the general design of the project, and in this case the user will just click the most distinct one, and we’re basically back to just one CTA button.

The people speeding ahead tend to be “happy extroverts.”

If you’re an introvert there’s no need to despair.
In addition to performing at a high level, you should “make sure to tell everyone, bosses included, not to mistake their reserve for negativity.”

Spacious. Minimalist. Clean. Bountiful white space has become the de facto design aesthetic in consumer apps.

A large business by its nature has massive-scale data and usually thousands of users who directly interact with it—searching, manipulating, reporting, and more. They need to move through that data quickly, without a lot of digging around in the interface.

Many people exclusively use keyboards to navigate, and rely on the focus state to know where they are on the page.

There's a huge variety of reasons why someone might use a keyboard over a mouse, and for many, using the mouse as a fallback just isn't an option.

How to use this list: Prior to a run, spend about 30 to 60 seconds performing each dynamic stretch (quad stretches, hip openers and hamstring scoops). On strength training days, perform each exercise with body weight only for 30 seconds, or load the exercises such as the squats and lunges with enough resistance that you can only perform 10 reps before needing a rest break. Perform 2 to 3 sets of 10 at this resistance level to improve strength and prevent running related injuries.

Since the declaration is not context sensitive, any correct application of the margin is a matter of luck. If the paragraph is proceeded by another element, the effect is desirable. When we went back to our data, the skills that our analysis identified as making a great manager are much more other-focused:

• Being open to feedback and personal change.
• Supporting others’ development. They know how to give actionable feedback.
  Being open to innovation. The person who focuses on productivity often has found a workable process, and they strive to make that process work as efficiently as possible. Leaders, on the other hand, recognize that innovation often isn’t linear or particularly efficient. An inspiring leader is open to creativity and understands that it can take time.
  Communicating well. One of the most critical skills for managers is their ability to present their ideas to others in an interesting and engaging manner. A certain amount of communication is required for the highly productive individual contributor, but communication is not the central core of their effectiveness.
  Having good interpersonal skills. This is a requirement for effective managers. Emotional intelligence has become seen as perhaps the essential leadership skill. Although highly productive individuals are not loners, hermits, or curmudgeons, being highly productive often does not require a person to have excellent interpersonal skills.
  Supporting organizational changes. While highly productive individuals can be relatively self-centered, leaders and managers must place the organization above themselves.
