After one week of pen-tooling mazes, I never had any difficulties with the instrument again. If I could shout one thing from the rooftops to beginning illustrators, it would be to conquer mazes.

Rather than dreaming up every little detail—shape, color, perspective, message, texture, and so on—I was just both rebuilding and adding to an existing set. Copying is the fastest way to get inside the mind of an illustration, and truly understand how it came to be.

Most flat illustrations are either based upon these basic shapes (which Illustrator perfectly pre-sets), or an organic shape (for which the mazes serve as preparation).

This stylesheet is heavily inspired by the Hand Drawn Vector UI Kit by Tony Thomas. I wanted a CSS theme that looked just like that, so I drew a bunch of similar components and got them working on the web.

Non-defensive/Nonviolent Communication is a way of relating to others so that everyone’s needs matter. NVC fosters connections between people rather than competition, one-upmanship or judgment.

1. Recognize and acknowledge that everyone’s basic nature is compassion and basic goodness, no matter what they are doing or saying on the surface.

2. Recognize and identify obstacles to compassion and empathy, such as unexamined beliefs, judgmental thoughts and old habitual patterns of reactive emotional behavior.

3. Cultivate emotional awareness in the present moment so that your reactivity is not projected outward onto others.

4. Become precisely aware of feelings, if you can, as they arise in the moment and move through you. You may have difficult reactive emotions that you are not conscious of.

5. When triggered into painful reactive emotions, realize that no one can “cause” you to feel anything. See your anger as a blessed signal – use it to connect with your primal, hidden feelings of hurt and fear that may lie hidden underneath.

6. Practice making neutral and factual observations instead of evaluations, projections and judgments.

7. Work continuously with your impulses that want to make others and/or yourself wrong, also known as blame.

8. Learn how to clearly identify and express your basic, universal needs without shame or expectations.

9. Practice what you would like from others without making a demand.

10. Look inside at your motivation for blaming, complaining or shaming others. What are you feeling now?

Barlow

Barlow is a slightly rounded, low-contrast, grotesk type family. Drawing from the visual style of the California public, Barlow shares qualities with the state's car plates, highway signs, busses, and trains.

This is the Normal family, which is part of the superfamily along with Semi Condensed and Condensed, each with 9 weights in Roman and Italic.

Encode Sans

Encode Sans is a versatile workhorse sans-serif superfamily ready for all kinds of typographic challenges, offering a unique blend of warmth and practicality. Its humanist aspects of simple letterforms and open apertures keep it crisp and legible, while its geometric approach of rounded letters with partially-straightened sides delivers a friendly but precise tone.

It includes 5 widths from Condensed to Expanded, each with 9 weights from Light to Black. To simplify the use of smallcaps in word processors, there are also small-cap versions of each family.

Cabin

Cabin is a humanist sans inspired by Edward Johnston's and Eric Gill's typefaces, with a touch of modernism. Cabin incorporates modern proportions, optical adjustments, and some elements of the geometric sans. It remains true to its roots, but has its own personality.

The Cabin font family comes in two variable fonts, roman and true italic, with a Weight range from Regular to Bold, and a Width range from normal to Condensed. The stroke contrast is almost monolinear, although top and bottom curves are slightly thinned. Counters of the b, g, p and q are rounded, and all are optically adjusted.

Sarabun

Sarabun is an open source multi-script webfont that supports both Latin and Thai. It is the "TH Sarabun New" font

Prompt

Prompt in Thai means “ready,” the same as in English. Prompt is a loopless Thai and sans Latin typeface. The simple and geometric Latin was developed to work harmoniously with the loopless Thai that has wide proportions and airy negative space. It is suitable for both web and print usage, such as magazines, newspapers, and posters.
